Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses everything from the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains to the immense Lake Victoria. Its abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees, rare birds and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Spectacular Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43m waterfall and abundant wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles and elephants.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1
Fly to Entebbe. Pick-up at the airport and drive to Jinja on the banks of the Nile for your first night in Uganda. Settle into your hostel and prepare for the next few days of service work and sightseeing.
Day 2
School service – Head to a rural Ugandan village and help with some minor maintenance issues that are needed. Make a lot of new friends and try to learn some of the local language, as well as helping the children learn some more English, Maths or Science.
Day 3
Visit the Source of the Nile – Head to the Speke memorial gardens and see the site where the explorer John Speke was the first European to set eyes on the source of the Nile as it pours out of the vast Lake Victoria.
Day 4
Travel to the Rhino Sanctuary. After lunch, you’ll start your valuable work in helping to protect these magnificent and endangered animals.
Day 5
Rhino Sanctuary – Continue with your conservation work which will be as invaluable as it is rewarding.
Day 6
Travel to Murchison Falls NP – After your last opportunity to see the Rhino, say your farewells and travel by boat to the Falls. Amazing wildlife spotting opportunities exist and you may see hippo, crocodiles, elephant, warthog and various antelope as well as the numerous birds that exist there. After seeing the power of the falls, drift downstream to camp for the evening.
Day 7
Early game drive in search of lion, leopard, giraffe, buffalo, hyena and a lot more. Then after lunch, head back to the bustling city of Kampala for your last night in Uganda.
Day 8
Depending on the time of your departure, perhaps a last chance to buy souvenirs before heading to Entebbe for your flight home.
