Sample Cultural Itinerary

Day 1

On arrival, you will be met at the airport by the Challenging Adventure trip leader and taken to your private bus for an onward transfer to the cooler highlands of Kandy to start your tour. En route you’ll have the opportunity to stop and eat some local food before starting the Kandy city tour. You’ll see the many sights of Kandy including the Tooth relic before enjoying a wonderful dinner and traditional cultural dance show. Overnight in a Hotel in Kandy

Day 2 

After breakfast, travel by train on a beautiful journey to Pinnawala, where you’ll join an elephant volunteer program (not the “orphanage”) and help with looking after the elephants. On the way, visit the spice garden and learn all about the local spices. Lunch at a local restaurant and return to the hotel for dinner. 

Day 3

Walk to the tea plantation and learn all about local tea plucking, make some local snacks with the villagers and help to paint a local school for the afternoon. If there’s time, play a friendly game of cricket. 

Day 4 

Travel to Kitulgala today via a Tea Factory and learn about tea manufacturing. Lunch at your campsite with a cooking demonstration and then you’ll go Canyoning for the afternoon! It’s fun, energetic and you’ll definitely get very wet! 

Day 5

Hike to the famous Beli Lena cave through the rubber plantations and learn about the prehistoric presence of homosapien, thought to date back 32,000 years. In the afternoon go White Water Rafting! Return to the campsite for volleyball, dinner and a campfire. 

Day 6

Travel to Negombo on the coast and enjoy a city tour before walking through the local fishing villages to learn about their way of life.

Day 7

See the unique fishing style of the Ma Dal fishermen, help with the nets before an opportunity for further exploration and souvenir hunting! Return to the airport mid – afternoon for your return flight back home, bursting with stories and pictures of your amazing adventure!
